He excelled as a student and received the Federal Government Merit Award to study medicine at the University. Ralph Olarewaju received a Bachelor of Medicine & Surgery (MBBS) degree from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Nigeria, 1982. He received his residency training in Obstetrics & Gynecology (O & G) from the University Teaching Hospital, Jos and became a Fellow of the West African College of Surgeons (FWACS) in 1990.
Raphael’s career has spanned public and private practice. Between 1982 and 1983, he was a House Officer at the University of Ife (Obafemi Awolowo) Teaching Hospital. He completed his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Programme at Ahmed Forces Resettlement Centre, Lagos, in 1984. He became a Senior House Officer in Obstetrics & Gynecology (O & G) at the University of Jos Teaching Hospital in 1985 and served as Registrar in O & G at the same Hospital between 1986 and 1989. He was a Lecturer and Honorary Consultant in O & G at Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) from 1991 to 1994.
In private practice, he was a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynecologist at Duro Soleye Hospital, Lagos, from 1994 to 1996, combining this with the role of Clinical Director from 1995. He co-founded Mother and Child Hospital in October 1996 and has been instrumental in the delivery and well-being of men, women, and children who visit the reputable Hospital for nearly three decades. The Hospital is headquartered in Ojodu, Lagos, and has a branch in Adeniyi Jones, Ikeja, Lagos.
He is a member of the Nigerian Medical Association, Society of Gynaecology and Obstetrics of Nigeria (SOGON), the Guild of Medical Directors, Nigeria, the American College of Physician Executive, The International Federation of Gynecology & Obstetrics (FIGO), and the International Peace Federation. He was the Secretary of the Guild of Medical Directors, Lagos State Branch, from 2003 – 2007.
In pursuit of and contribution to knowledge, he has authored many publications. He regularly attends seminars and takes courses, including Leadership and Management from the Health University of Washington, USA, in June 2018. He regularly speaks at conferences, meetings, and churches and participates in medical outreaches.
R.S. Olarewaju is a believer. He has a postgraduate degree in theology (PGD) and has served in various leadership capacities at his local church.
Raphael Olarewaju is a proud son of Oko Irese, Kwara, Nigeria. In honour of the legacy of Dr. R.S. Olarewaju’s parents, his elder brother and his wife who played a significant role in his education and Raphael and his wife, the family set up endowment funds with financial gifts annually to the best graduating students in the Faculties of Agriculture, Science and Medical Sciences respectively.
R.S Olarewaju is family-oriented and has close ties to his family and community. He is married to Mrs. Mojirola Iyabo Olarewaju, and they have children and grandchildren. He enjoys walking as a form of exercise and studying.
